Construction Little La Trobe Street
Construction Little La Trobe Street
What a great time to be in this part of the CBD! Surrounded by the State Library, RMIT University and Melbourne Central shopping centre, the Brady Group kicked off the regentrification of this end of town with the opening of the Brady Hotel Central Melbourne in late 2014. The Brady Group combined every facet of their 40+ years’ experience in building quality residential developments throughout Melbourne into a hotel environment and almost four years later we are seeing the precinct come to life around us.
Scape Swanston, a student living development, opened it’s doors in February 2018 and has transformed the entry to Little La Trobe Street. They have some exciting retail spaces that are due to open in the back half of the year that will round out their presence on Swanston Street and breathe more life into the area.
The Aurora Melbourne Central has soared well above the halfway mark and at full height will be close to 90 storeys of primarily residential accommodation; it’s making us feel a bit inadequate at only 16 levels for the hotel. The commercial levels are expected to be operating by the end of 2018 and the construction activities are now having a negligible impact on our guests’ enjoyment of the hotel. Upon completion, this project will directly link us to the best of Melbourne’s shopping precinct including Melbourne Central, Emporium Melbourne and Bourke Street Mall to name a few.
City of Melbourne has recently announced that their metro rail project is running ahead of schedule. This much needed infrastructure for the city will have the new State Library Station within close proximity to the hotel and create a hub for business, students and residential users. The site directly opposite the hotel is now in an extended archaeological dig and will then be fully excavated to form an access point to the main shaft along Swanston Street. Check out the status and next steps in the project by visiting http://metrotunnel.vic.gov.au/stations/cbd-stations
Melbourne City Council will generally only issue permits from 7am to 7pm weekdays, 7am to 2pm on Saturdays with no works permitted on Sunday or Public Holidays. Whilst we are now not impacted by construction activity, if you are a light sleeper please shoot us an email or ask on check-in so that we can try to allocate you a room that will best suit your needs.
